Atopic Dermatitis

Treatment of Atopic Dermatitis

Atopic Dermatitis, also known as atopic eczema, is a common inflammatory skin disease with an increasing incidence. Inflamed areas of skin and severe itching can occur as early as infancy.

CAUSES & COURSE

The symptoms of atopic dermatitis can be explained by the reduced protective function of the skin barrier. There is also a connection between atopic dermatitis and allergies (e.g. to pollen, house dust mites and food) and allergic asthma. In this context, one speaks of an atopic diathesis.

Diagnosis

In addition to recording the typical symptoms of atopic dermatitis, it is important to take a medical history, including a family history. Due to the frequent co-occurrence with allergies, an appropriate allergological clarification is helpful. To confirm the suspected diagnosis, a skin sample can also be taken and analyzed in detail.
