Laser treatment of spider veins

Gentle removal of spider veins

WHAT ARE SPIDER VEINS?

Spider veins are fine, dilated veins on the legs that run directly under the skin. They are visible through the top layer of skin and can occur more frequently after pregnancy. Small spider veins are bright red and turn bluish as they grow. They are usually only a few millimeters long. In concentrated form, they can disfigure entire areas of skin. They can often be seen on the thighs, inner thighs and edges of the feet.

Laser treatment of blood vessels

Laser therapy for spider veins is carried out using so-called vascular lasers (neodymium YAG, KTP laser). In these laser treatments, dilated vessels or their inner walls are heated by laser light that penetrates the intact skin. The body breaks down the damaged blood vessels within weeks. Several treatment sessions are usually required to achieve the desired results.

In most cases, the treatment of spider veins is possible without local anesthesia. A slight tingling or burning sensation may occur during laser treatment due to the energy transfer of the laser pulses.

Preliminary examination/pre-treatment

A comprehensive clinical examination of the skin and veins is carried out before laser treatment. This allows us to assess whether laser therapy is suitable for the areas of skin to be treated.

Treatment time

Depending on the extent of the skin to be treated, the actual laser treatment can take up to 30 minutes. Larger areas require several sessions.

Possible side effects

Pigmentation disorders may occasionally occur, which usually subside after a few weeks. Tanned skin may lose pigmentation and become lighter in the treated areas. Excessive sunbathing or visits to the solarium can lead to excessive tanning of the treated skin. This should therefore be avoided from the outset. Use a sun cream with a high sun protection factor.

After the treatment

Ideally, the blood vessels should be completely closed or at least narrowed after the laser treatment. In order not to negatively influence the success of the treatment, you should avoid hot baths, saunas etc. in the days following the treatment.
