Lumecca is considered a very safe and well-tolerated IPL procedure with an extremely low risk of side effects. Nevertheless, as with any aesthetic treatment, temporary skin reactions may occur in rare cases.
Redness and slight swelling may occur immediately after the treatment, but this usually subsides completely within a few hours or one to two days at the latest. Some patients report a temporary feeling of warmth on the skin, similar to mild sunburn – this also usually disappears quickly.
Another typical effect is the darkening of treated pigment spots (also known as the “dirty look”), which can occur after 24-48 hours. However, these small crusts or discolorations disappear on their own within a few days to about a week and are a sign that the healing process is beginning.
Occasionally, increased sensitivity to light may occur – it is therefore particularly important to protect the skin with a high level of sun protection (SPF 50+) after treatment and to avoid direct sunlight. In very rare cases, slight discoloration, bruising or pigmentation changes may occur, which usually disappear completely within one to two weeks.
