Sclerotherapy of varicose veins

CRAMP PATHS

In the early stages of venous disease, the veins can often be sclerosed. This treatment for varicose veins is known as sclerotherapy and is effective for small or very small spider veins. Sclerotherapy is an easy-to-perform, virtually painless technique for removing visually unpleasant varicose veins.

In sclerotherapy, a sclerosing agent (ethoxysclerol) is injected into the dilated veins. The blood vessels then stick together, are no longer permeable and are gradually eliminated by the body. This usually takes several weeks. The therapy normally requires several treatment sessions with a time interval of approx. 4 weeks between the individual sessions.

After sclerotherapy, there is usually a slight inflammation in the area of the treated vessels. There may also be pigment shifts in the skin, which usually fade within a few weeks. To rule out individual intolerance, it is advisable to treat a small area first as a trial.
